This Endoscopic Shearography Camera development combines standard
optical endoscopy with a full-field, real-time optical NDT
technique, to provide the worlds-first visual inspection instrument
capable of defect/damage detection inside metal, composite, ceramic
and other components.
The technique is based on the capture and processing of an image of
the component under test, illuminated by laser light. Images are
taken before and after the component is subjected to a minute
deformation (eg small pressure variation, heat input, mechanical
loading etc). The images are subtracted and the result is a
deformation “map”. The system provides two images: a real image (A)
and a shearography image showing abnormal deformation induced by
defects (B). The image capture is provided remotely using a
specially designed endoscope
Benefits;
- Endoscopy provides internal inspection capability
- Reduced inspection time and cost
- one-shot, real-time, in-situ, inspection
- surface preparation not normally required
- Permanent data record of visual and shearography images
- Provides “Fitness for Purpose” indication ; identifies
significant defects
